One, Two, Three, Swing! A Tate Modern Installation

If you’ve been to the Tate Modern you’ve probably felt a little overwhelmed by the vast space that is the Turbine Hall. The Danish trio SUPERFLEX have utilised this place for what they have called “intelligent fun,”aka SWINGS!
The new exhibition is divided into three parts: Apathy, Production, and Movement. Entering the hall, you’ll walk across an elaborate rug based on the colour scheme of British currency and watch a massive pendulum swing above you. At the far end, you’ll be able to spot a
small “factory"designed to look like an assembly line for the swing seats. And of course, there is an endless row of orange swings!
The purpose of these three-seat swings is to promote inclusion among strangers because, as SUPERFLEX artist Rasmus Nielsen says, 'There are too many single swings in this world'. The exhibition actually extends beyond the walls of the Tate into the surrounding borough of Southwark.
In the midst of economic, political, and social turmoil, SUPERFLEX hopes that their interactive display will 'combat social apathy through collaborative action'.
SUPERFLEX is comprised of three artists, Bjørnstjerne Christiansen, Jakob Fenger, and Rasmus Nielsen. They believe that there is 'no such thing as an individual artist… you cannot work alone', an unusually hopeful statement from the innately esoteric art world.
One Two Three Swing! is the third annual Hyundai commission and will be open and free to the public until April 2nd 2018, so be sure to check it out!
