LFWSS25 - People Pleaser Salad kicks off this latest London Fashion Week

Tucked away in the brown-brick, industrial lanes of Old Street, a new, zesty salad bar, ‘People Pleaser Salads’, is in town and this Autumn, they hosted the launch party for London Fashion Week. To kick off the most glamorous week of the season, Strand magazine joined a party of fashion-enthusiasts for an evening of well-mixed beats, cocktails, and, of course,  salad dressings. Forget the salmon blinis, cheese boards, and champagne - People Pleaser Salads treated us to platters of sticky tofu skewers with spicy peanut dressing, grilled mozzarella and blackberry bites, and party-size tubs of some of the best salads I’ve tasted. Even the cocktails had fun fruit and veg motifs!

It goes without saying that the salads weren’t the only things that were well-dressed: The floor was filled with an eclectic mix of both current and avant-garde looks. The scene made one thing clear: hyper-feminine fashion (think “Barbie” and “Coquette”) is alive and kicking. No need for rose-tinted glasses when the fashion world is saturated by baby pink Mary Janes, magenta stilettos, and blushing bows on everything from hair to shoes and dresses. It was refreshing to see guests bringing their own fresh twists to the trend.  The usual elements of the look, such as lace, bows, and silk, were paired with hot pink Adidas jackets, bold tulle skirts, and near-ironically saturated pink tights. After generations of “girliness” being associated with passivity, the trend seems to indicate that femininity has come to be associated with a new sense of empowerment.

The move towards sustainable fashion was also made evident this Autumn. I was pleasantly surprised to see guests wearing thrifted items and hand-made clothing. One of the guests, a designer and model from Kazakhstan, showcased her own creation: a hand-printed, monochrome maxi dress which exuded whispers of traditional Kazakh folk dress. She paired it with black satin ballet slippers, and a silver engraved headpiece:

Mingling with a group of creatives who see fashion as both art and responsibility was an honour, and I learned so many new things about fashion production and showcasing. On behalf of Strand Magazine, we look forward to London Fashion Week SS25!
